Cultural Orientation Resource Center

COR Center backgrounders provide key information about new refugee groups for U.S. resettlement workers. Backgrounders include sections on the need for resettlement of the group to the United States, cultural attributes of the group, resettlement considerations, as well as a one page statistical summary.

Welcome to the United States: A Guidebook for Refugees
Cultural Orientation Resource Center

This resettlement guide is given to all refugees overseas once they have been approved for resettlement to the United States. The Guidebook is intended to give refugees information about fundamental aspects of life in the United States and includes the following chapters: community services, housing, transportation, employment, education, health, managing your money, rights and responsibilities, and cultural adjustment. It is developed in an easy-to-read format, including photos and refugee quotes.

The accompanying Welcome to the United States Refugee Orientation video covers the same topics and includes interviews with refugees, service providers, employers and others. Available in VHS and DVD formats.
